A 3-DAY INTENSIVE WILDERNESS TRAINING PROGRAM
(COURSE SCHEDULE)
Twice a year, June and September Every Place Wild Maine Guide Service conducts an intensive 3 day wilderness training program for those of you that would like to learn from the professionals how to cook, canoe and the art of the wilderness encampment.
DAY 1. Finds us cooking up a storm using camp utensils such as the Dutch Oven, the Reflector Oven, Smokers, Wood Fires and Propane Burners. The baking of pies, cakes, biscuits and bread, the preparation of three main courses with all the fixings in a group setting is our goal.
Menu planning, organization, packing and planning are also taught. Good food served hot and on time is always one of the high lights out on a canoe or camping trip and we will provide you with the skill and knowledge to make it happen.
DAY 2. Finds us learning and many times re-learning the proper way to pack and paddle a canoe both tandem and single. Using your canoe for such things as shelter, a dinner table, a sailing platform is but a few uses for this craft. Paddle techniques along with self-rescue tops this exciting and informative day.
DAY 3. Concludes this intensive training program with the Wilderness Encampment subject. A complete setting up of a functional wilderness camp, a well organized encampment for the large group right down to the single camper.
Different camp arrangements are needed for groups, a long stay, short stay, wilderness bear country, or a single person who is on the move everyday. Learning the essentials for each scenario is important and will save you time and effort if done correctly.
The wilderness encampment is more than just a campsite for you and your tents. It also includes the organization of the camp members, the delegation of chores within the encampment in order to make for a comfortable and well organized camp group working at the right time to bring everything together no matter what the conditions are i.e. rain, wind, hot or cold. This very important aspect of a wilderness trip can and does mean the difference between a successful happy trip where everyone stays dry, comfortable, well fed and is up to speed quickly on the camp routine and knowing exactly where he or she fits into it.
Lots of reference material will be given to refer back on as you all go your separate ways. Complete support down the road is also available to our graduated members as new questions and situations arise for you. Suggestions on equipment and items that make you more efficient with your group or by yourself are also available.

(TESTIMONIALS)
I never had so much fun in my life; I learned so much in three days I could not believe it. The instruction and guides were superb and I came away with a wealth of knowledge that I could have never gotten from reading how to books. I felt totally comfortable asking questions and got good answers along with hands on experience. John from MA.
I have been camping since I was a kid and thought I knew pretty well what to do and what not to do until I took this course. I now have a new perspective on how to do things and I know this will make it much easier out on future trips. The food was as good as a four star restaurant and all cooked out of doors no dehydrated stuff here. Joe from Ct.
The cooking session was over the top, delicious meats, salads, pies, cakes, cobblers, beans, potatoes and onions, vegetables. All cooked the old fashioned way like they did on the trail years ago. I never knew you cold make ice last 8 days in a cooler. The training was more than I expected and I would recommend it to anyone. Al. from NJ.
The encampment program was just what I needed to bring back to my scout troop, no more slackers in this group. The guides have worked up a system whereby each member of the group gets a chance to do a different job each day in the camp using a rotation system with weather proof Q Cards that spells out the job along with how and when to do it. The system leaves nothing to chance and gets things done the same way every time on time. I love it! PS. If the job doesn’t get done the guide knows right whom to look for. Ray from MI.
Canoeing was always easy for me, or so I thought. I would get in the canoe paddle a few strokes on one side then a few on the other side to keep the canoe going straight. When I got tired id let my bow person paddle awhile and I would rudder, worked for me. Then I came to the wilderness-training program and learned how to do it the right way with very little effort. Now I need only change sides with my paddle if I get tired of paddling on one side and I can keep the canoe going straight paddling from either side no problem. My bow person paddles if they want when they want and I only call on them now for help paddling into a wind. Its no wonder a guide can paddle a loaded canoe all day by himself with little effort. Keith from VT.
